Monday’s Review ~ Sovereign Hope by Author Frankie Rose

Everyone has a soul.

Some are just worth more than others

Farley Hope was seventeen when her mother disappeared. In the last six months not much has changed, except that her eighteenth birthday came and went and still no sign of Moira. Her life is just as complicated as it always was. Since her father died in a car crash before she was even born, she’s officially parentless, and to top it all off she’s still suffering from the hallucinations. Mind-splitting, vivid hallucinations- the kind prone to induce night terrors and leave you whimpering under your covers like a baby.

The last thing on her mind is boys. Farley is on break from St. Judes’ when she meets Daniel. It’s not some casual run in at a party, or even a blind date with friends, though. Daniel is the guy following her in his 1970′s Dodge Charger; the guy standing at her window in the LA lunch hour traffic, trying to persuade her to leave everything behind and follow him. And he’s hot as all hell.

The moment Farley lays eyes on Daniel, everything changes. He is cold and withdrawn, but there are cracks in his harsh veneer- cracks that betray the secrets he is trying so hard to hide. Farley is drawn into a world that will shake apart everything she thought she ever knew. There are truths out there that she must learn: that a person’s soul is their only real currency, and there are people who would do anything to take hers; that loving someone can hurt so much more than hating them; but, most importantly, when your future is predestined, there is little you can do to change it.

Farley Hope is prophesied.

Her coming has been awaited for hundreds of years.

She is destined to end the tyranny of the Soul Reavers.

To do so she must die.

Frankie Rose was born in the United Kingdom, but now lives with her husband in sunny Australia.

She officially makes things up for a living, and when she’s not doing that, she is generally making paper birds out of receipts and old lists or taking photographs that make her smile.

Review of Sovereign Hope

Rating: 4.5 stars

This story is told through Farley’s eyes mostly some told through Daniels eyes.

Farley’s mother is missing for six months her dad dead. She goes through each day hoping news of her mother will be announced but nothing. Since she was young she’s had visions as such of people dying, diagnosed with have migraines that cause this condition doesn’t make it stop.

Realising she’s been followed she soon comes face to face with Daniel who is as moody as they come, his appearance in her life thrusts her into a paranormal world at war and she is the focal point.

I loved the history behind this story and the author was extremely creative in writing in the sense of good versus evil, but neither having quite a fine line. Nothing is just clean cut or black and white there is so much grey in this story.

Farley is such a funny character without knowing it, and I enjoyed reading from her perspective so much being thrown into such a crazy world she acts accordingly thinking everyone is mad or that she’s going mad, but soon the evidence keeps piling up and she faces up to the truth about who she really is. She’s brave and loyal to the ones she loves and I loved her relationship with her best friend Tess. She discovers so much when Daniel takes her to Agatha.

Daniel is moody, sarcastic and really good looking. I could picture him so clearly; a damaged soul trying so hard to encase his heart in stone until Farley shows up and his confusion turns to anger and more sarcasm. So it’s really funny watching their feelings grow along with both of their anger towards each other. It’s a love hate relationship. But I loved it.

The plot was amazing like I said earlier it was very creative and had me on the edge of my seat, this is only book number one and I can only imagine what book two will bring to the table, I can’t wait to read it.

Overall a really great story, with a strong love interest going through it and enough secrets along with some horror to keep you turning the pages.

Review of (Mis)fortune

Rating: 5 stars

(Mis)fortune is all based around a young women called Michelle who has been kept as a prisoner by Blake, a were-wolf (Well kind of). To keep her a prisoner he threatens her with her two younger brothers Aden and Liam, they are only four and five.

Blake makes Michelle sit through a meal once a month, where he brings his friends. Michelle keeps her head down but being annoyed by a guy across from her she kicks him, getting the unwanted attention of Blake. His anger shows his true nature and Michelle watches as Blake’s teeth lengthen and sharpen, Michelle’s fear and confusion is very believable.  Shortly after Michelle’s step dad is murdered and she escapes the clutches of Blake taking her to brothers with her.

So Michelle fleas and soon meets Emmitt, a man willing not only to protect her from Blake’s men, but to help her and her brothers. Emmitt takes Michelle to his own home where we meet Jim and Nana Wini. Michelle keeps the truth about why Blake is after her and her gift hidden. But Emmitt has his own secrets also.

In (Mis)fortune,  so much of the plot comes together. The first book was about Gabby I just loved it, but this book which is the second instalment gives us a few more answers as to try and understand who these women are. We get more answers when Emmitt takes Michelle to the compound and we meet his mother, who seems to have gift of her own.

Michelle’s fear through the story never lets go and I couldn’t help but feel so sorry for her, as she suffered at the hands of Blake for four years her love for her two brothers was her Achilles heel in Blake’s eyes. The relationship that blossoms between the boys and Jim and Emmitt was lovely. Jim was a real character I just loved him and his ability to piss Emmitt off was priceless.

The love story between Michelle and Emmitt is very slow paced but yet it always held my interest. But no-one can beat Clay from book one, he was something else.

Anyway I would highly recommend this book to all romance, paranormal and fantasy readers.

I’m off to read Part three (Un)wise.

Monday’s Review ~ Blood Warrior by Author H.D. Gordon

When her home is attacked by murderous vampires, 17-year-old Alexa is forced to leave her mother for dead in order to save her sister. She soon learns that she is the last known member of an elite race of supernatural Warriors, and is thrust into a world full of vampires and werewolves who all seem to regard her as some sort of savior. The hidden city she finds herself in appears perfect, but Alexa’s instincts tell her that all is not right within its walls. When she is asked to attend a school of fighters, whose exams consist of gladiator-style competitions, she must decide who she can trust among the smiling faces. Review of Blood Warrior

Rating: 4 stars

This story is told through the eyes of Alexa, a girl who seems to be beaten daily by her mother. She seems to have so much hate and anger boiling inside that she may tip over the edge at any moment, and she does while protected her little sister Nelly. It’s a great victory for the reader. The guy who’s lights she punches out deserved it. At first I thought her mother was a cruel and cold person but soon began to understand that she was preparing her for something. And that something was vampires. The story took on a twist I really wasn’t expecting from the synopsis it says her town was ravaged by vampires but I soon learnt it was only her home and for a good reason. She flees with Nelly her sister leaving her mum to die; she really didn’t have a choice in my opinion, even though it eats away at her.

Alexa is strong and well composed for someone who is thrown into a paranormal world and with her friend Jackson to help her flee the story gets interesting. You can see from the start that Jackson is head over heels about Alexa but she really is none the wiser. Her sister’s safety seems to take place over her own safety or her life in general for that matter.

When she discovers a city that is protected from shall we say evil vampires (yes there is more than one type) Alexa learns who she is, a warrior and the last one of her kind. The city that she is brought into seems perfect. Everyone actually gets paid for going to school, how nice is that? J It’s there that we meet Kayden; he is the perfect example of a male. Protective, good looking and always around when Alexa needs him and Alexa herself is attracted to him almost automatically but fights the attraction tooth and nail.

Soon Alexa begins to discover some sinister happenings in this almost perfect city and we see a different side, to her a more caring one and a more dangerous one to the city itself.

The end of the book left me with my mouth hanging open.

This story is full of paranormal creatures and will leave you wanting more, there’s plenty of romance, suspense and action to keep you turning the pages.

I would highly recommend this to all fantasy lovers.
