Blurb:  When magic and mystery become a part of adult memory, and children only know the hushed whispers in dark corners, people expect trouble at every turn.

For Gin, her safety relies on those dark corners and the danger of the grimy British streets. Magic and fantasy are a long buried dream; until she meets the candle-maker. Thrust into his secretive world with just a sullen, shadowy guide for company, Gin clings to the edges until the heavily guarded line between life and fantasy blurs.

As she chases her inevitable future to escape the echo of what lies behind, the world and all she knew of it becomes one final step into the unknown.

I’m an almost-graduate of the English Language and Communications and Literature, half-Finnish, half Londoner – I’ve loved stories and writing them since the age of nine. I currently live on the glorious south coast of Britain near to Brighton with the rain, the pebbles and the seagull invasion. I like all the usual person description hobbies that people put in these things, including but not limited to pole dancing, skittles (the candy not the game) and yelling at the television when the touring cars come on.

JUST FOR YOU

grief

R.I.P

Barren Landscape,

A harsh Breeze,

Sunless Sky,

Pray for me.

Nobody left,

No calling Birds,

The world departed,

Where is God?

Your taunts arise,

Deaf ears they fall,

What is left?,

Is this truly all.

Move one step,

Take two back,

Raw throat,

A Broken Heart.

Who will cry,

O cry for me,

Landscape broken,

Set me free.

Freedom Given,

The price you pay,

No turning back,

Not today.

What to do?

What to say?

One more chance,

Todays the day.

Rest your head,

The sun will shine,

Upon your face,

You are divine.

Goodbye to you,

You’re sadly missed,

I will cry,

I grant your wish.

A wish bestowed,

The day you died,

O young man,

Here comes the tide.

Don’t you worry,

I’ll always be there,

Hands in hands,

I’ll treat them fair.

I’ll watch upon,

The ones you love,

Don’t you worry,

Fly white dove.

Sore high,

Among the clouds,

But don’t forget,

To come back down.

Give guidance,

A ray of light,

A small gesture,

A touch so light.

Always cherished,

Always there,

Our love for you will never falter,

this I swear.

Spotlight for Blood Bound by Author Sharon Stevenson

Blood Bound 1

Blurb:

19-year-old twin demon trackers Shaun and Sarah Gallows are used to running into trouble – mostly the kind with fangs – but while Sarah embraces her powers to their fullest extent, trusting her instincts implicitly, Shaun distances himself from his abilities and can do little more than despair at his sister’s reckless nature and idly back her up.
When they come across 17-year-old Melissa Carling, a demon tracker who’s been torturing innocent super-naturals, they know they have to stop her. Sarah is desperate to punish Melissa for what she’s been doing but Shaun’s instant attraction to the girl points to a soul-mate bond stronger than anything he’s ever had to fight before…

***Be warned this book is New Adult Modern Fantasy, not YA. It is not suitable for younger readers as it contains profanity & sexual references.

Sarah Gallows in action by Laura Boland

Excerpt:

A soft sigh pulled Shaun’s attention down to his twin sister.  Sarah stood steady beside him, staring into the darkness with a whisper of a smile twitching at her lips.  Her blue eyes shone bright past the dark eye-makeup.  It was time.  The energy she held so tightly coiled was ready to be unleashed.  Shaun felt the first sparks flicker from her as she slipped forward into the nest.   Shivering, he followed, ducking the doorframe.

Her right hand reached out and yanked one of the vampires out of the shadows.  The creature was a good foot taller than her and almost twice as wide but he trembled under her steady gaze, knees giving out under him.

Collective hissing from the darkness set Shaun’s nerves on edge.  There were a couple more than he’d first calculated and of the twenty presences in the room, every last glowing eye was locked on the petite blonde who’d just crashed the party.

Not one of the creatures appeared to sense Sarah’s lanky brother glowering at them with his one real eye from the shadows beside her, the usual case when she was around shining too brightly to be ignored.  Shaun half-thought Sarah did it on purpose; she worried far more than she should.  He shifted the stake in his hand, ready to strike, and looked to Sarah.

The vampire she held weakened under her touch.  He looked up at her with tears streaming down his undead face.  Blood stained his slack mouth.  The human girl he’d been feeding on lay dying on the floor under the cover of shadows, her drained body past help.  The girl’s life-force was ebbing away and yet the sympathy overflowing from his sister was being extended to the monster she held, for the awful things that had set him on this path.

Shaun frowned at her.  The vampire sobbed at her feet, clinging onto her slim legs.  She pulled back, but only to crouch down beside him.  The other eyes only watched, unblinking.

“Ssh,” she whispered, stroking the side of his face.  He shivered under the direct touch of her skin to his.  His fever-bright eyes sank into her black-hole gaze.

She had the sword in her hand before any of the vampires could react.  The blade sliced through her chosen one’s neck, unmaking him in an instant.  The smoky burnt-out mulch his body collapsed into seasoned the air.  Shaun held his breath, trying vainly not to inhale any while it still clung to the atmosphere.  The stillness in the room started to unnerve him.  The captive undead audience poised to strike, ready and remorseless.

Sarah wiped off the sword and looked up, death in her gaze.

“Who’s next?”

 What am I working on?
At present I am working on two different books, one being the thrid part of the Saskia Trilogy Rise of the Queen. It being the final instalment is a bit tricky as I feel it takes far more work then the previous two. I need to make sure everything falls into place and that every question is answered. I will be sad to leave Saskia, but it was an amazing journey.
The second book I am writing at present is Hunted. I just finished Hunters and it’s been edited as we speak. It’s a little different from what I usual write, and has far more horror in it. If anyone wishes to read the first chapter of Hunters they can visit my website at http://www.aoifemariesheridan.com
How does my work differ from others of its genre?
For me I love to make sure that even though I am writing fantasy that is somewhat believeable. So as simply as world building I will research alot of things so I know what I am talking about, from simple things as building huts, to something more complex as to creating electricity all this was nescessary Saskia is set in medival times. So it took a lot of work. Also I feel that all the emotions come from life expiernce. I wouldn’t say something like ” my skin felt like acid burn’t it” as I never had acid burn my skin. (Thank God) so I keep it as close to home as possible so I can explain from expiernces.
Why do I write what I do?
I write becuase I simply love telling stories ones that I can start off small with and bulid on, to me it’s  a passion.
How does your writing process work?
I don’t have one to be honest, I write when I feel like writing, or I write when I have free time. No process.

Monday’s Review of Beasthood By Author A.Z.Green

Blurb:

The bloody, raw meat was tantalizing her; calling to her. She hated it and yearned for it all at once.
Stop, she ordered. What are you doing?!
So hungryyyyy, snarled a primal voice deep within her.
Don’t you dare! she screamed back.
But the primal hunger ignored her pleas and took over her body, forcing her rational voice deep within the crevices of her mind.

What would you do if you discovered you weren’t human? That you turned into a bloodthirsty monster against your will?
What if your instincts, emotions and desires were torn between your own and the dark, dangerous animal lurking inside of you?
If it could make you yearn for someone you shouldn’t, make you say and act in ways you wouldn’t and overwhelm your whole existence?
If everything you’d ever known about your life was a lie?

In a world where a deeply hidden community is swathed in mystery, deadly secrets, betrayal and murder, Jaz Barker struggles to fight against the dangerous Beast within her and the emotions and desires it thrusts her way.

When tensions ride high and people she cares about are put in danger, she will have to decide how much of her newly awakened animal-side she’s willing to let in.

And if it is worth the risk…

Review of Beasthood

Rating: 3 stars

Jaz is the main character in the story, and she seems like a normal girl who suffers from an iron deficiency. But when she suffers a terrible dream that feels real to her she gets therapy. An aunt she didn’t know she had comes to take her off on a holiday to a spa and she goes feeling excited until she steps outside and a limo is waiting for her with its own driver.

When Jaz’s eyes lock with the driver who calls himself Driver she feels a sudden pull.

From that moment the story takes off, as it’s told through everyone’s perspective and we get to know what everyone is thinking and feeling.  I much prefer a story to be told in first person, that’s me I always enjoy them better, gauging people’s reactions from facial expression and not knowing what they are thinking, so straight away it kind of pulled me out of the story. As I know what everyone’s agenda was as such was.

Once Jaz reaches the “SPA” I got confused when she was chased, she was going there willingly yet she got out of the car to get sick and then all of a sudden she’s racing down a dirt road, with men on her heals, Driver being one of them. She’s taken and placed in a sealed room where she spends a few days’ terrified and confused. I was as confused as she was, but even as I read the story I still can’t for the life of me understand why she was chased. I re-read it three times thinking I missed something but I am still as confused. She believed it was a spa, why not let her walk to the room and shut the door behind her if they wanted to keep her locked up, why all the drama. Just didn’t get it.

Anyway she soon learns what she is but it’s all in small doses and her acceptance is pretty realistic, she has zero trust in everyone including her aunt, I don’t blame her. But she accepts her new life and starts to fall for Driver who was mated to her Sister, who died. It wasn’t weird as she wasn’t his true mate, but Jaz is.

For me it didn’t do it, but others may feel differently and should give it a read.

Review of World After

Rating: 4 stars

www.reviewoffantasy.com

Angel Fall the first book was outstanding for its originality. World after was outstanding for its horror.

Some of the horror was towards the end of book one, but in World After it was on full throttle. Angels are experimenting on humans, turning them into monsters the fact that they don’t just do this man (not that it’s okay) No they take women and even children. This is tough to read especially with Paige being only seven. She’s stitched like a doll, her teeth sharp – made of steel and she’s a cannibal, yet she is only a little girl on the inside who wants to be loved, but  Penryn struggles with this. I don’t blame her Paige sounds freaky. But when Paige runs away Penryn realises it’s still her little sister and tries to track her down.

Raffe thinks Penryn is dead so she’s on her own with her “crazy” mother and Clara a women who was used to feed scorpion angels in book one. But Penryn saved her but Clara is not right she’s a shadow of her former self and has aged rapidly from her horrible experience in the lab.

While searching for her sister, Penryn her mum and Clara end up in Alcatraz and we see how the angel scorpions are been made, the most disturbing part was the amount of humans helping. While there Penryn watches a tape of her sister from the day she was taken and I think it takes another chunk from her heart, it broke mine. As Penryn continues her search her responsibility of people to save keeps growing and her family are pushed further away from her. It’s not until Raffe shows up that Penryn can take a breather but not for long as both of them go after Biebel. Raffe for his wings and Penryn for her sister once again.

An amazing yet horrifying journey that’s not over and I can’t wait for the next book.
