Firstly I have to say that this book brought up more emotions then I expected. Fractured Immortal is a dark tale. It’s all told from the perspective of Ilia, a vampire whose life has been pretty sad. Often in stories like this you get to hear what they lost, but this book goes deeper into details and I found myself on more than one occasion fighting the tears.
When Ilia was mortal she was unmarried and pregnant, her mother had two butchers remove the baby from Ilia’s body not really caring for her daughter’s life, the detail was gruesome and so very sad, but overall extremely well written. This is what started to shape Ilia into the vampire she ended up being.
Her existence is in isolation as she searches the globe for the man responsible for killing her family and loved ones. Yet she carries her pain with her never letting it go. She is broken yet a fighter. When she gets news that Sol maybe returning to her hometown, she returns there, and we get to see more of her life, and it’s all very painful. From the person she loved, to the memories of her childhood, it’s dark and sad.
Yet when we get introduced to Lana and Lucas, we see a kindness, and a little bit of weight seems to be lifted off her shoulders, until Kyle steps into the picture.
Now Kyle he is an onion – he has layers upon layers, upon layers, upon layers …. Complex character. Kyle had me hating him, and then loving him. As the story went on I felt so sorry for him, then went back to loving his sarcasm, he threw me so much throughout the book, that even now that I’m finished, I realised I wanted a happy ever after ending for him. He really deserves it. His relationship with Ilia is funny at the start its push shove and fuelled with anger and love, yet once again as the story progresses it just becomes another complicated aspect to Ilia’s life. The part when he takes Ilia to see Julia’s resting place, I cried. It was the saddest moment in the book and it made me look at Kyle once again in a different light.
Nat is the other love interest and from the moment Ilia bumps into him you see an attraction, but their attraction has a reason behind it. Don’t want to say too much on that, you just have to read the book to find out. But I loved it. And as for the ending…. It had my mouth gaping wide open, while I shook my head cursing the author when I realised the second book isn’t out yet. I needed to get to Ilia and tell her… well I can’t tell you what it is, but it’s pretty huge.
Maggie the witch. I just LOVED HER, every moment she was in the book she had me grinning from ear to ear. She’s quick with her words, she doesn’t think just acts (that is referring to what she did to Nat) couldn’t believe it yet I couldn’t stop laughing. I just loved her.
There was so many great characters even down to Max and Kate the two young witches, and Alex who’s Nat’s friend and kind of side kick. Each character had their own story and each one was interesting. I think the author developed them very well.
The character I hated the most wasn’t Sol funny enough or Seleana for that matter, it was Victor he’s vicious and cruel, yet I know in book two we will be seeing lots of him.
Overall the book was very well written, it flowed well, and kept me engaged the whole way through. I loved each character and found them well developed. I would recommend this book to all paranormal, fantasy, romance or dark fantasy readers.
