  1. How did you get started in writing?

I always wanted to be a writer. Even as a little kid, I would write poems and short stories. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English, but after college, I was burned out on reading and writing for a few years. Then I decided to see what all the Twilight hype was about, and I read the series. I fell in love with reading again, and that renewed my interest in writing my own novel.

  1. Who is your favorite character?

I have so many favorites, but right now I’m going to choose Rhysand from A Court of Thorns and Roses/ A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas. He’s my current book boyfriend, and I can’t wait for the third in the series.

  1. Who is your favorite author?

What book nerd can pick only one? Certainly not this one. But for the sake of the interview, I’ll pick Emily Bronte. When asked about my favorite novel, I always choose Wuthering Heights. It’s a classic, and I’m a sucker for love stories. The story of Catherine and Heathcliffe can’t be beat. Still, I should mention my other favorites: Kate Chopin, Sarah J Maas, and Jennifer Armentrout…just to name a few.

  1. When do you usually write?
I’m lucky enough to be able to treat writing as my full time job right now, and I have the cutest little office at my house. I try to be in my office Monday through Friday by at least 10am…though half of my day is spent doing research on the internet, staring out my window, and being distracted by social media. Still, I consider it working.

  1. Do you listen to music while writing? If so what? It totally depends on my mood. Sometimes I need absolute quiet to think and write. Other times I need music to invoke a certain feeling to help me write a scene. The music can be anything from instrumental to metal, depending on the mood of the character or the scene.

  1. What books have most influenced your life?

This is going to be an odd mix of books, but here it goes.

-First, I’ll mention the R.L. Stine Fear Street Cheerleaders series. Laugh all you want, but this is the first series of books that got me hooked on reading when I was a kid.

-Next, will be Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. I know, I know…most don’t consider this a literary jewel either, but who didn’t read this series and love it at the time? Again, this series renewed my interest in reading after college, and it opened my eyes to what is now my favorite genre: young adult paranormal romance.

-Another book which has greatly influenced my life…the sentence pattern text book from English 101. My best friend and I took this class together during our first semester of college. We’d both make so much fun of this book and our teacher for drilling all the sentence patterns into our heads. But as a writer, knowing how to style a sentence is a pretty important skill.

-Last, but not least, is the Bible. I was raised in church, so this upbringing and the Bible has shaped so much about me. It’s given me my values, my beliefs, and my outlook on life altogether.

  1. What are you passionate about these days?

I’m always passionate about reading and writing. Right now I’m working on the prequel to After the Fall, which occupies a big part of my time.
