You want me to choose just one mythical creature that’s my favorite? That’s like asking me to choose only one ice cream flavor or tell you which Doctor in Doctor Who was the best! (*cough*Ten*cough*)

I’ve changed my mind a few times but I’m going to settle on Cthulhu, an old god that is a part of the Lovecraftian mythos. As a big fan of both H.P. Lovecraft and horror in general (I was reading Stephen King at 7), the idea of an ancient being so alien and unable to be understood, lurking in the depths below hits all the pleasure centers in my brain. I can’t tell you why that appeals to me so much but there are hints of it in my own work, subconsciously added.

Which is probably why one of my favorite movies, Cabin in the Woods directed by an old god himself, Joss Whedon, is one of my favorite movies with an ending that makes me smile.

I have issues.

They say demons and angels don’t mix. I say people should mind their own damn business.

My brother, Damian, has been my rock ever since mom left. Didn’t matter that I’m demon-blooded. I was his and he was mine.

But nothing lasts forever.

He wants me to go to college. I’d rather fight a hundred sentinels than lead a boring, safe life hiding who I am. So when a nephilim goes missing, I go behind Damian’s back to find the teen. Maybe if I can solve the case, he will upgrade me to his partner in crime solving.

As bodies begin dropping, I realize I’m in way over my head. But there’s no way I’m going to admit that, not when my future hangs in the balance. It’s do or die time, and I’m not going down without a fight.

Mythology has been a part of my writing career for as long as I can remember. The idea of Gods and monsters being as real as we are and not just the dusty meanderings in a book electrified me then, and still does now.

As far as myths, I love to write about the Persephone and Hades. There is just so much wiggle room with that one. Same goes with Medusa. Cause even chicks with snakes in their hair need love too. But for me, if I had to pick one favorite, one creature that I just keep coming back to over and over again, it all goes back to shapeshifters, more specifically wolves.

Loup garou. Werewolf. Whatever you call him, he is wild and runs beneath the wide night sky with the moon whispering in his ear. He is Alpha. Primal. He knows his mate by scent and will claim her at any price. And sometimes, like the hero in my story, Taming the Beast, he is willing to sacrifice himself to save the ones he holds dear.

A little known fact about me. Growing up, the monsters were my friends. My bedroom was laden with near life size cutouts of Dracula and his
bride. I had a Fright Night poster on my door. And this was year round. Vampires. Hunky wolf men. Bring it on.

As an adult, my upstairs office is decked out in monsters much like it was then. The collection of old fashioned monster busts, Dracula’s castle that lights up. Stitched projects with broomsticks and Halloween candy corn. What can I say? Monsters and mythical creatures bring the shadows to life and bring some light into the mundane world.

I hope you will enjoy all of our stories in the Creatures box set.

Happy reading.

Soren Rochester is a werewolf and the owner of Barks, one of America’s most successful pet store chains. He also happens to be fighting a curse from one pissed off witch, and he’s running short on time to find a mate or else. When his assistant suggests a reality television show, he reluctantly agrees. My favorite mythical creature has to be an angel. Why? Because I’m not sure they’re actually mythical. Maybe the way people portray them in paintings and movies is not real, but the fact that they truly might exist makes them fascinating.

Anything dealing with the afterlife draws me in, and angels definitely fall into that category. I’d have to say though, if I have a guardian angel, she’d definitely working overtime. Just another thing I love about angels.

And seriously, what woman wouldn’t love to encounter an ethereal being so gorgeous and powerful, he could answer all your prayers. Amen to that sister!

Once I was an angel, which I loved. Now I’m a demon, which I hate. And might I add that my fall was totally not my fault despite what those heavenly douchebags believe. Anyway, I’m stuck with this gig, working for one of the head demons of Hell. And to be frank, I’m rather good at tempting souls and avoiding the boss man. That is until Camuel, my former angelic partner, arrives on the scene. All I want is to tempt my mark to the dark side, and then enjoy a nice glass of wine and a good book. Unfortunately, tall, blond, and feathery has other things in mind.

After radio silence for a couple thousand years, BAM, there she is, my old partner Mara. I thought I was over the anger of her joining Lucifer’s entourage, but clearly, I’m not. And damned if she isn’t smack dab in the middle of trouble, messing with the soul I’ve been assigned to save. Things are about to get ugly, because there’s no way I’m letting my client be swayed by a minion of Hell. And no doubt I’ll do something stupid like try to save Mara’s soul. I just hope I can do it without losing my own.

I’ve loved mythology since I was really small, so much so that I’d buy books on Ancient Egypt (that was my absolute favourite mythology) with my pocket money. But picking just one creature is really tough! There are so many, and as a paranormal romance author, that gets all the harder! I’ve written about shifters, vampires, necromancers, dryads and sirens, not to mention the mermaid I’m writing with J & L Wells for this set! Which makes it really hard to pick.

So I’m going with Ammit, mostly in homage to my love of Ancient Egypt as a child. Ammit is an Ancient Egyptian demon who was part lion, part hippo
and part crocodile, and she was also known as the devourer of the dead. Which sounds kind of ominous, but actually is really interesting. The Ancient Egyptians believed that when a person’s soul traveled to the afterlife, their heart was weighed by Anubis (the God ofCemeteries & Embalming) against the feather of Ma’at (the Goddess of Truth). If the heart was heavier than the feather, then the soul had led a bad life, and Ammit devoured the heart, stopping that soul from reaching the afterlife.

Sorry, history lesson is now over! I find it all so fascinating that I can’t help myself! Which is why I chose Ammit in the first place. The whole mythology is fascinating to me, and I’m planning to write a series based on the Ancient Egyptian Gods & Goddesses at some point…I don’t think they get enough page time!

I hope you enjoy our Creatures box set! There’s a fantastic collection of stories in it!

My favourite would have to be fairies. As I live in Ireland here is a little information on fairies who live here amongst us.

This is its story:

In Irish folklore, Lone Bushes are the meeting places of the Fairies. The fairies are believed to be the Tuatha de Danann, one of the first tribes to arrive in Ireland, they were a magical and secretive people.

When warrior tribes like the Milesians began to arrive in Ireland the Tuatha de Danann were defeated in battle but would not be forced to leave. They loved Ireland so much they decided to use their magic to shrink themselves and live underground. The tunnels which you can see are believed to travel all over the country to different fairy villages. Each fairy village is marked by a single hawthorn tree or Lone Bush located nearby.

The fairies are a secretive people who are blamed by the local Irish for many things which they cannot explain. As a result, the fairies like to be left alone and it is considered bad luck to disturb a fairy bower or a Lone Bush.

Aoife Marie Sheridan is the Author of Drowning in Lies. You can find out more about Aoife here!
