Mythical Creatures With ~ Heather Marie Adkins

It’s hard to pick a favorite mythical creature. As a paranormal author, I LOVE THEM ALLLLLL. I’ve written books about the fae, vampires, werewolves, ghosts, witches, and demons. Before it’s all said and done, I’ll have run the gamut of The Encyclopedia of Mythical Creatures.

But I guess if I have to choose, I’d always fall back on witches. Not the Wiccan-based, Circle-gathering type like me, but Hollywood witches. The ones who can conjure flame in their palms, manipulate real time and space, or use wands to do, well, anything (hey, Harry Potter, I’m looking at you.)

I don’t think there’s a limit to what witches can do. This world hurts and it burns and some days, it doesn’t feel worth existing in. When I sit down and write about witches who have the real power to change the world, it brings me hope.

Not that it could ever be more than fiction. Just hope that magick, however small, does exist, if we only know where to look.

Ever O’Connell prides herself on being a good Wiccan, and her coven follows the path of the Goddess with love and light. But the dark witches in school—the BlackMags— keep pushing her toward the edge, until Ever finally finds herself at war.

Cade Bourdain inherited his father’s thirst for power, drawing him into darker areas of magick. Despite his dislike for the Fluffy Bunny Wiccans, he feels an unearthly connection to Ever.

When the two strike up a secret relationship the real magic between them is ignited, generating a power that a dangerous warlock yearns to take for his own. Ensnared by the warlock, Ever and Cade’s conflicting covens must work together despite their differences—or else be destroyed by a common enemy.

The line between light and dark has never been so unclear.

I’m Dacian, a tattoo magician. Life was pretty good. All I had to worry about was finding a pretty guy to fall into bed with at the end of the week. Then everything started to fall apart around me. Maybe I cursed the gods one too many times? Whatever happened, I now have two major problems.

Number one – I’m an ink magician, the thing of myths. A lot of very powerful people would love to get their hands on me, and I have no intention of letting that happen.

Number two – A tattoo thief came to my city, and the magical community has decided that I’m the guy to stop them.

Somehow, I have to catch the thief without letting my secret out of the bag, and that’s even harder than it sounds.

You want me to choose just one mythical creature that’s my favorite? That’s like asking me to choose only one ice cream flavor or tell you which Doctor in Doctor Who was the best! (*cough*Ten*cough*)

I’ve changed my mind a few times but I’m going to settle on Cthulhu, an old god that is a part of the Lovecraftian mythos. As a big fan of both H.P. Lovecraft and horror in general (I was reading Stephen King at 7), the idea of an ancient being so alien and unable to be understood, lurking in the depths below hits all the pleasure centers in my brain. I can’t tell you why that appeals to me so much but there are hints of it in my own work, subconsciously added.

Which is probably why one of my favorite movies, Cabin in the Woods directed by an old god himself, Joss Whedon, is one of my favorite movies with an ending that makes me smile.

I have issues.

They say demons and angels don’t mix. I say people should mind their own damn business.

My brother, Damian, has been my rock ever since mom left. Didn’t matter that I’m demon-blooded. I was his and he was mine.

But nothing lasts forever.

He wants me to go to college. I’d rather fight a hundred sentinels than lead a boring, safe life hiding who I am. So when a nephilim goes missing, I go behind Damian’s back to find the teen. Maybe if I can solve the case, he will upgrade me to his partner in crime solving.

As bodies begin dropping, I realize I’m in way over my head. But there’s no way I’m going to admit that, not when my future hangs in the balance. It’s do or die time, and I’m not going down without a fight.

Mythology has been a part of my writing career for as long as I can remember. The idea of Gods and monsters being as real as we are and not just the dusty meanderings in a book electrified me then, and still does now.

As far as myths, I love to write about the Persephone and Hades. There is just so much wiggle room with that one. Same goes with Medusa. Cause even chicks with snakes in their hair need love too. But for me, if I had to pick one favorite, one creature that I just keep coming back to over and over again, it all goes back to shapeshifters, more specifically wolves.

Loup garou. Werewolf. Whatever you call him, he is wild and runs beneath the wide night sky with the moon whispering in his ear. He is Alpha. Primal. He knows his mate by scent and will claim her at any price. And sometimes, like the hero in my story, Taming the Beast, he is willing to sacrifice himself to save the ones he holds dear.

A little known fact about me. Growing up, the monsters were my friends. My bedroom was laden with near life size cutouts of Dracula and his
bride. I had a Fright Night poster on my door. And this was year round. Vampires. Hunky wolf men. Bring it on.

As an adult, my upstairs office is decked out in monsters much like it was then. The collection of old fashioned monster busts, Dracula’s castle that lights up. Stitched projects with broomsticks and Halloween candy corn. What can I say? Monsters and mythical creatures bring the shadows to life and bring some light into the mundane world.

I hope you will enjoy all of our stories in the Creatures box set.

Happy reading.
XOXO

When she goes with her friend Cara to a job fair, she has no idea she’s just applied for a position on Extreme Bachelor—in front of the camera and not behind the scenes as she intended. Mythical Creatures With ~ Boone Brux

My favorite mythical creature has to be an angel. Why? Because I’m not sure they’re actually mythical. Maybe the way people portray them in paintings and movies is not real, but the fact that they truly might exist makes them fascinating.

Anything dealing with the afterlife draws me in, and angels definitely fall into that category. I’d have to say though, if I have a guardian angel, she’d definitely working overtime. Just another thing I love about angels.

And seriously, what woman wouldn’t love to encounter an ethereal being so gorgeous and powerful, he could answer all your prayers. Amen to that sister!

Once I was an angel, which I loved. Now I’m a demon, which I hate. And might I add that my fall was totally not my fault despite what those heavenly douchebags believe. Anyway, I’m stuck with this gig, working for one of the head demons of Hell. And to be frank, I’m rather good at tempting souls and avoiding the boss man. That is until Camuel, my former angelic partner, arrives on the scene. All I want is to tempt my mark to the dark side, and then enjoy a nice glass of wine and a good book. Unfortunately, tall, blond, and feathery has other things in mind.

After radio silence for a couple thousand years, BAM, there she is, my old partner Mara. I thought I was over the anger of her joining Lucifer’s entourage, but clearly, I’m not. And damned if she isn’t smack dab in the middle of trouble, messing with the soul I’ve been assigned to save. Things are about to get ugly, because there’s no way I’m letting my client be swayed by a minion of Hell. And no doubt I’ll do something stupid like try to save Mara’s soul. I just hope I can do it without losing my own.
