Voices In My Head

OUTLOOK

I looked at your face
And what a surprise
That smile is back
Held deep in your eyes

Your outlook on life
Has taken a U-turn
It’s happiness, love
For which you now yearn

I’m glad to be here
Beside you each day
Watching as you chase
The dark clouds away

I want you to share
The rest of my life
For better, for worse,
For always, your wife

OLD MAN

As you sit out on your porch
In your old rocking chair
Wondering why no one
Ever comes visit you there
You are thinking of your children
They are all full grown
“Where are they? How are they?
Why have they left me alone?”
Think about your years past
When your children were still young
What kind of seeds did you sow
And what tending was done?
Did you show them your love,
Or was it just words to hear?
Were you there to help them
In their times of need and fear?
Were their talents and deeds
Given praise, by you, enough?
Or did you rant on their hair
And other such dumb stuff?
Think of your grandchildren
Did you show them you care?
Or did you just give them gifts
No time with you to share?
Did you give to each family
Your support and praise
Showing the world you were proud
Of the children you raised?
Or did you still try to rule
As if their houses were yours
Choosing not to see they grew
Their pain and hurt, ignored?
Maybe this loneliness
You are feeling deep inside
Is now what you must reap
From the seeds sowed by your pride

THE BLANKET

The snowflakes floated silently
Throughout the darkening night
Crystal flakes so delicate
Gently blanketing all in white

From the cars in their junkyard piles
To farmhouses and ranches
The snow coated all it found
Not missing tiny tree branches

I woke to dawn’s morning call
The whole world shined clean and new
I saw Winter’s cold answer
For warm Spring’s morning dew.

They Won’t Shut Up

AUTHENTIC

Friend just told me
Very hard truth
I should have learned
While in my youth

My heritage
Not as believed
How easily
I was deceived!

Sure dear parents
Are so ashamed
That even now
I use their name

Must fix this fault
That is all mine
Mud on my face
No longer shine!

At home more apt
Make pizza, stew
Than tortillas
I never knew!!

Need a great plan
Oh, What the Hell
I’ll get a job
At Taco Bell!

Work really hard
Both day and night
Finally will
Make all this right

Bean burritos.
Enchiladas, too
Spicy tacos
And that green goo

I will learn how
To cook at last
Live for future
Forget the past!

My mom and dad
Will be so proud!
May point to me
In a large crowd!

Properly cook,
I THINK I CAN!
I wish to be
REAL Mexican!

LEOPARD SPOTS

Saw you treat people
With utter disdain
As if you enjoyed
Causing others pain

Stood watching as you
Cheated, stole and lied
Sparkling smile used
As subtle disguise

Being your sister
I thought was a charm
Our love would keep you
From causing me harm

I never thought you
Would do it to me–
On purpose cause pain
It just couldn’t be

I tried to believe
It was a mistake
Too big of a shock
For my mind to take

My heart won’t let me
Pretend anymore
I see how you are
I’m closing the door

Takes only one straw
To break camel’s back
I must now admit
Empathy you lack

It is your nature
Some evil you planned
Nothing “personal”
I do understand

Forgive you, maybe
Forget, I cannot
Know even leopards
Can’t change their spots

LIFE FLOW

Winter ebbs
As Spring dawns
Silent days
Fill with song

Moonbeams shine
Deep in night
Mingle with
Bright starlight

Precious nymphs
Sprinkle dust
Bring to life
Blooms for us

Spiritual Poems & Poems about Life – By Charles Johnson

134 Love Poems and More From the Heart and Soul of Man

I am Barabbas

How can you set me free? I have lived a wicked life. But the one you let go is me? I have stolen, killed, and caused tremendous strife.
I have lied and committed sin at every turn. I have destroyed others lives and helped none. What do you think after a lifetime of being bad I will learn? I should be crucified for my crimes but you chose another one.
Everyone knows and fears my name. I have earned your hatred I truly deserve to die. Yet you all scream for another; a man meek, mild, and tame. And now you choose to set me free and I truly have to wonder why.
What did this man Jesus ever do to you? Why do you let me a killer go? And torture, curse, and spit upon him? Does he truly deserve to take my place? Tell me what did he ever do? I am a man who would laugh as I tie a rope around your neck and hang you from a limb.
And you hate a profit, a preacher, and a gentle kind man more than me? Oh what a fool you all are and you will regret this mistake you make. I will never stop my evil ways it is my life and the way I will always be. I will lie, cheat, steal, kill, and rape! And your hearts, minds, and souls I will take!

For I am Barabbas people will remember my name throughout all time and space. Stories will be told about my treacherous deeds long after I am dead. And what will become of this man Jesus you choose to crucify in my place? No one will remember such a gentle man or the simple life he led.
Oh how funny! This man Jesus, you have put a crown of thorns upon his head. You have whipped him and tortured him for what your stupid fear I dread. As I watch as you make him carry upon his back the cross to Calvary. I realize that here before me is the man you chose to die instead of me.
As I watch this man you spat upon, tortured, and now drive nails into his hands and feet. Some in the crowd cried out and called him their king, their Lord, and their master. As the Roman soldiers pushed them back with spears from Jesus. They would not retreat! Something inside me is happening I feel that this is somehow a true disaster.
I watch as the sky goes dark and the crowd fills with fear. And as the blood drains from his body I see tears fall from his eyes. I was touched and changed as he looks directly at me. And what do I hear? Even while being crucified this man Jesus with his dying breath he cries.
“Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.”
Jesus why would you want to forgive them for all they put you through? They set me a killer free and killed you for being good and just. Please forgive me! Jesus it should have been me not you. I should have been crucified for I AM BARABBAS.
