This book is written in such away that it can be read as a stand alone or after the first book of the series- The Guardian. After so much more loss Adela finds herself in the middle of a love triangle and the fight for the head of Covens.

Adela and John both have their fair share of choices to make. Adela must think of her coven, but at the same time she feels a burning desire for her great, great niece’s Guardian John. She is torn because though fate has blessed her great, great niece with a Guardian that is connected to her by Mother Earth to protect her from anything, she keeps rejecting him. John is torn between the woman he is fated to and Adela. He fears that it is Adela’s powers of seduction that is tempting him. He feels a desire to protect Gala, but also feels a yearning for Adela. At the same time Adela must search for the secret journal known as the Guardian journal and protect those she loves from the dangers that lurk in the shadows.

I must start out by saying I loved, loved Priest. What an amazing character one I would love to see a book based on. He was a bad ass vampire hunter, who actually worked with a vampire called Adela. I found his character realistic even though he was human he didn’t lack in any skills compared to the vampires. His movements often quieter, his hearing better.  I rooted for Priest throughout the book and enjoyed every moment of reading from his perspective. The author’s ability to writing fighting scenes was well done, and I was sucked into the book, I loved his journey to the forbidden library and all the creatures he had to fight as he moved towards it.

I had read on another review that someone had said they didn’t like the love triangle for me I wouldn’t call it that. Adela, Gala and John are tied together. John is Gala’s guardian but he is also tied to Adela for me I felt from the start that it was really just Adela and John and the only thing keeping Gala in the circle was a deep rooted responsibility for John to protect her but as the story went on it was very clear to me his love was for Adela and Adela alone. So I personally wouldn’t call this a love triangle as I wouldn’t be the biggest fan, there was no I love you, Oh no actually I love you blah blah blah. Thank god.

Adela’s main priority throughout the story was for her coven and also keeping Gala in line, and oh my god she would test a saint. I wanted so many times to reach into the book and slap her so hard. She was whinny, hateful and just downright annoying. Adela tried so many times to make her see sense even using violence but of course Gala would just cry for herself and not look to the reason why Adela was being so hard on her. I know if gala wasn’t tied to John that Adela would have killed her. But like all things she gets what she deserves. (Not telling, you need to read the book)

Now onto the hardest character for me and the reason this book only got four stars inside of five, was Adela. I really struggled with her character sometimes. She was one of the strongest vampires, respected by all she even had friends in the werewolf clan. She was old and basically feared. Yet for me at times her personality didn’t match the person or vampire I thought she should have been. She was well … emotional which really caught me off guard. I mean in so many ways. Maybe for me this is based on the belief that vampires don’t really cry and as they age the loose their humanity. But Adela was like any other person, she laughed, joked, cried at times when you would expect her too but for me it just seemed unusual.

Other than that I found the story to be fast paced and well written with plenty of action. I would recommend this to all vampire lovers 🙂 and paranormal readers.

Karen Lynch grew up in Newfoundland, Canada – a place rich in colorful people and folklore to which she attributes her love of the supernatural and her vivid imagination. She moved to Charlotte, North Carolina years ago and was immediately charmed by the southern people but she says she will always be a newfie.

Though she loves supernatural fiction, she has a soft spot for Charlotte Brontë and Jane Austin. She is a fan of classic rock, country and classical music but her favorite music is the sound of a good thunderstorm or a howling blizzard. Two of her favorite past times are baking artisan breads for her friends and spending quality time with her two German Shepherds.

A voracious reader, she fell in love with books and writing at an early age and it grew into a lifelong passion. Relentless is her first published work and she hopes it is the first of many.

Sara is a girl full of secrets, but ones she has to keep in order to protect her friend’s human or not. Her loyalty to others is amazing and it was one of the qualities in her that I loved about this book.

The world building and creatures we get to meet, are cool my favourite being the trolls, who would be friends with trolls but Sara. She has a way with everyone, even Animals; she is a pretty cool person. I loved her relationship with Peter and Roland they were funny, but they also have secrets of their own.

Sara’s dad was murdered ten years ago and she now lives with her uncle, who is very very human, but she always tries to find out what happened to her dad, and while investigating she gets the attention of a twisted vampire but is saved by a warrior Nikolas, who is moody, dark and is always there to protect Sara even if she doesn’t want saving. She really can stand on her own two feet, but when she’s hunted by a vampire that will stop at nothing to have her, Nikolas is all that stands between them. I just loved the tension with Nikolas and Sara, they were back and forth all the time, it was definitely a love hate relationship.

The amount of twists and turns in the story was great and it kept me reading long into the night. I just loved this story, my favourite thing was definitely all the supernatural creatures we get to meet.

I would highly recommend this book to all paranormal/fantasy and romance readers.
