With two coronations to attend, you’d think the universe would stop piling catastrophes on top of Louella Eschete, but you’d be dead wrong. As she prepares to ascend two thrones, one as Lady of the Cortez Vampire Court and the other as Matriarch of the Eschete Witches, she must face a new evil.
Just when Lou is ready to stab a seamstress with a hat pin, murder and strange occurrences begin to happen around her city. Stolen corpses in the cemetery, decapitated astronomers, and hearts taken from nursing homes is odd, even for Louisiana. There is no rhyme or reason to the carnage, but the sigil left behind at a scene points to something ancient.
It’s a race against the clock for humanity. There’ll be nothing to rule if everyone’s dead.

When I met Rafe Morelli, he didn’t look like the biggest mistake I’d ever make; he seemed closer to the crime family version of Prince Charming. Charismatic, beautiful, and attentive—with an intoxicating air of power—Rafe was the stuff of my darkest fantasies.
What we had should have been a simple fling, no-strings-attached. My hot weekend with the sexy, dominant Vegas boss—a harmless memory to replay once I returned to my quiet, predictable life.
One tiny hitch in that plan: a panty-melting memory isn’t all he left behind. Now the stakes have changed, and I’m faced with a potentially life-altering decision. Do I stay away and enjoy my status as the only woman in known history who has played in the Morelli flames without getting burned, or do I risk everything and step back into the fire?
BOOK 1 OF 3 IN THE VEGAS MORELLI TRILOGY.
Can be read if you have not read the original Morelli family series, but this trilogy will have spoilers for that one.
Sam Mariano loves to write edgy, twisty romantic reads with complicated characters you’re left thinking about long after you turn the last page. Her favorite thing about indie publishing is the ability to play by your own rules! If she isn’t reading one of the thousands of books on her to-read list, writing her next book, or playing with her adorable daughter… actually, that’s about all she has time for these days.

In the meantime, she cares for her family, loves her pugs, and remains silly through all that life throws at her. Her goal is to be an introverted hobbit.

He approached me slowly and cautiously with his hands in the air. He was wearing a faded jean jacket, black jeans, and a black beanie. Then he said something in another language I didn’t understand. I looked at him, uncertainly. “Oh great, a survivor who can’t speak English. Just my luck!” I only knew one language. Sometimes I wish I would have taken Spanish but I didn’t think this man was speaking Spanish. I think it sounded like Hebrew but I couldn’t be certain.
When he realized I didn’t understand him, he said very calmly in perfect English, “Don’t jump, Ariella.”
I looked at him in shock, disbelief and fear, not really sure I believed what I was hearing. “Where did you come from and how did you know my name?” I took a step back, putting distance between us.
“Don’t jump, please. I’ve been looking for you for seventeen years when you first disappeared.” He paused, took off his beanie, and ran his fingers through his wet light brown hair before putting his beanie back on. He looked like he’d been running and he seemed relieved over something.
“What makes you think I was going to jump? I could be looking at the scenery for all you know.”
He didn’t pay attention to what I just said as he continued, “I can’t believe I found you. I thought you were lost forever. You don’t remember me?” He seemed hurt for a minute. Disappointment crossed his handsome features for only a moment. He seemed happy and his voice was uplifting.
I took in his appearance. He was gorgeous and seemed to be a bit brighter than the current dreary landscape. The first thing I noticed was his kind golden eyes and brilliant smile. His light brown hair was soft looking and peeked out from beneath a black beanie.  He seemed casual and charming. I was in black and white compared to him. He didn’t look as though he had been surviving in this harsh new world for the last several months, not like me. He looked as though he came from someplace else. I looked at him skeptically. I must be delusional. Who was this guy? I was almost angry at his intrusion in my personal conflicts yet happy to see another human face.
I felt very confused. I put my hand to my temple, closed my eyes, and shook my head. “No, I’ve never seen you before. I’ve seen no one in months, not one survivor, and then you come up and expect me to know who you are?” I felt angry.
He still remained calm and collected. “I apologize. You just look exactly as I remembered you. As expected, your memory has been erased. My name is Rumen.”
Rumen, what kind of name was that? “What do you mean ‘my memory was erased’?” It seemed incredulous. Was I dreaming or did I jump and this was hell? No, I believed my memory was fine.
He eyed me carefully. I melted in his gaze. He was truly a gorgeous man. “You really don’t know who you are?”
“No, enlighten me, please.” Did I really want to know who he thought I was? I kinda did. It was nice having a real person to talk to and not just some voice in my head.
“Ariella, you are an angel. The angel of protection to be exact and we have been looking for you for seventeen years. That’s why the world has been crumbling and the rapture happened. There has been no one to protect the Earth or Heaven.”

High school sucks. It doesn’t matter who you ask; jock, cheerleader, computer nerd, or band geek, they will all say the same thing: It’s a nightmare. But Casey is still wondering how she got the short end of the stick. Just a Sophomore at the prestigious Luthos Academy for Magical Beings, Casey already knows more about heartache and fear than any almost-sixteen-year-old should. Orphaned and left to be raised by the Academy, she spends her days training to become a Guardian, but that dream is looking dimmer with every day that passes.Unlike the wand-waving heroines in all her favorite books, Witches in her world don’t cast spells, they are born wielding the power of nature: water, fire, earth, or air; powers Casey never developed. She’ll be lucky if they even allow her to take her final exams.
She is top of her training class, but that doesn’t keep her from being looked down upon by every other being at her school. All Casey wants is to be given a chance, instead she finds the only life she’s ever known targeted by an unfathomable evil. Thrust into the center of an age-old prophecy, a war is coming with Casey at the reins.
Will relying on her hard earned training be enough for her to make it out alive?
E.M. Rinaldi lives in Charlotte, North Carolina with her husband, Milz, and their slightly psychotic pup, Boone. She works as a Registered Radiologic Technologist, taking pictures of mangled bones for hours on end- then she writes about all the bizarre situations her characters get themselves into while she was away. She is a Second Degree Blackbelt and can’t write a story without at least one fight scene in it.
When she’s not writing or trapped at work, E.M. likes to read (obsessively), clear her DVR, and have all night Buffy marathons with her friends, complete with cookies and cinnamon rolls.
Her love for writing stems from an early age where she would create stories on an old computer program and force anyone within grabbing distance to read them. Not much has changed; be warned: stay out of grabbing distance.

All I knew was pain. It consumed me, its excruciating strength refusing to let my mind focus on anything else. I struggled, an unwilling passenger of my own mind, as I felt muscle being separated from bone and each individual tendon tear as they were twisted in a direction they were not meant to go. I suffered the deep throb of a bone being pulled from its natural joint. I wanted to give up and just let the agony overwhelm me until it hurt too much to stay conscious. When my body could no longer take the torture, I would be free.
But before I could give in, my attacker made a crucial mistake. As he made another tug on my arm, a twinge shot through my shoulder forcing a strangled yelp from my mouth, and he laughed. The bastard stood there—I bet with a damn smirk on his face—and laughed.
Oh, hell no.
His laughter reached a part of me that I hadn’t noticed until that moment, a part of me that was literally fighting to get out and kick this guy’s ass. Anger fueled the adrenaline that now pumped through my body in full force. Muscles coiled and tensed in preparation to fight. My foe felt my change in posture and went to tug on my arm again, but I was already moving.
I let instinct guide my free hand right into his nose. The sickening crunch of breaking cartilage filled the air, but I didn’t have time to enjoy the surprised look on his face before my well-practiced side-kick sent him flying toward the back wall of the gym. Reality came back to me slowly; I was still standing in a fighting stance, blood roaring in my ears, heart pounding in my chest, as I became aware of the other students in our training class.

There was a bang across the hall as Max strutted in. His usual smooth grin hit me from across the room as he filled up a bowl full of slop. Amusement tugged at the corner of his mouth when I scowled back at him and he parked himself down across from me.
“Do you mind?” he asked.
“It’s a free world.” I shrugged.
He snorted. This was his usual game, finding any way to annoy me. Even sitting down across from me irritated me to no end, but I did my best to ignore him and returned to stirring my cold food.
We were both silent as Max moved his food around with his spoon for a few minutes before he let out a heavy sigh. Max placed the bowl onto the floor where Chevy was waiting eagerly to gobble it all down.
“I can’t eat any more of this garbage,” he grumbled.
“Keep your voice down,” I hushed.
“Oh, come on. It’s not like you’re eating it either. Everyone knows it sucks. I’m not saying anything you’re not already thinking.” He gestured to my still-full bowl, now cold from sitting for so long.
“We’re guests here. Show a little respect.” My voice was quiet but stern.
Max leaned into the table, surveying my body, my face, and my mouth. “Then you eat it,” he challenged me. “Eat more than one bite, and I’ll stop complaining.” He raised an eyebrow. I wasn’t sure if he was trying to piss me off, or if the hint of worry and pleading in his voice I detected was begging me to eat something. Anything. I’d been starving myself unintentionally, but it was hard to focus on things like eating when there was so much rattling my brain.
I didn’t look away, and I didn’t touch the spoon that still sat in my cold food. Crossing my arms, I settled in to wait him out, unwilling to let him win even one battle with me.
His shoulders slumped, and I realized worry indeed was hidden behind his feeble challenge. He pushed his chair back hard, clenching his jaw tightly, as he picked up the empty bowl from Chevy. “Didn’t think so. Looks like we’re both going to starve to death in this metal trap.”
I rolled my eyes, “I’ll be fine. You’re the one who will suffer, not me.”
He swaggered around the table and leaned in so close that his breath tickled my neck, but I didn’t flinch or look away. His gaze swept from my head to my toes once again. “I’m not the one who needs to save a dying world. I don’t need to be in peak condition or feed a body that isn’t quite human. I’m not the one who’ll suffer. Everyone else will if you don’t stop moping around and feeling sorry for yourself.” His cold glare was like ice in my veins as he stepped away. With a slight smirk, he spun on his heels and left before I’d even blinked, leaving a shudder down my spine.
His words rang in my ears, “a body that isn’t quite human.” I was a Carbon now, no longer human, even though every instinct inside of me was wired to protect humans, not hurt them. That was why they all looked at me differently, why Max looked at me with prying eyes as if he was trying to figure out what exactly I was. I was different, yet I found myself forgetting that at times.
But I wasn’t a hero anymore. I was no longer someone or something to be proud of. There was a monster living inside of me, waiting to break free. And the weight of everything he said was the reason I hadn’t slept in weeks or eaten in days. I wanted to do something about it. I wanted to be better. But every time I thought of it, the guilt and pain took over, and I could barely breathe without breaking down. I often wondered what Kenzie would think if he saw me, or if he knew what I was—what I had become. Would he look at me like he used to? Or would he look at me with disgust for what I let happen to me? What I let myself become?
Chevy sat at my side, pawing at my leg, as he looked up with worried eyes. I stroked his head as I looked at my bowl of slop with a groan. My hand quivered as I took a tentative bite and fought the gag threatening to bring the food back up. With a long, hard swallow, I took another bite and another—until the bowl was empty.
And I could’ve sworn I saw the door to the hall close a crack more than it had been before.
